Atomoxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's the gist for atomoxetine (Strattera). Your body relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to break this medicine down. Schizonepeta contains a compound that, in lab and animal studies, appears to slow that same enzyme. If it does the same in people, your atomoxetine could clear out more slowly and build up, which may turn up its usual side effects like a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, decreased appetite, or feeling jittery.

I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal data, not human studies, so we don't truly know how much it matters. Don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

What Is Atomoxetine Used For?

Brand name: Strattera

Atomoxetine — available as capsules (Atomoxetine, Atomoxetine Hydrochloride, Strattera) and as an oral solution (Atomoxetine Hydrochloride, Atoncy) — is approved for the treatment of ADHD in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older. It is meant to be part of a total treatment program that may also include psychological, educational, and social supports.

ADHD is diagnosed when persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity cause meaningful problems in daily life — at school, at work, or at home — in more than one setting. Atomoxetine is not approved to treat major depressive disorder.
