Estradiol, Progesterone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP1A2 include clozapine (Clozaril), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), fluvoxamine (Luvox), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), mexiletine (Mexitil), olanzapine (Zyprexa), pentazocine (Talwin), propranolol (Inderal), tacrine (Cognex), theophylline, zileuton (Zyflo), zolmitriptan (Zomig), and others.

Here's the gist for Bijuva (the estradiol and progesterone combo). Schizonepeta has been shown, but only in lab and animal studies, to slow down an enzyme called CYP1A2. Since some of the estrogen in this product is broken down partly through that same enzyme, blocking it could in theory let estradiol levels drift a little higher than usual. That might mean more of the usual hormone-related effects, things like breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, headaches, or spotting.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on animal research, not on people taking this medicine, so the real-world risk is probably small. Still, since you're dealing with hormones, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Schizonepeta, rather than guessing.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Bijuva combines estradiol and progesterone, and your liver clears both hormones partly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. The concern here is that schizonepeta may speed up that enzyme, based only on animal and lab research. If that happened in people, your body could break down these hormones a little faster, which might mean weaker results, such as the return of hot flashes, night sweats, or breakthrough spotting.

I'll be honest: this is a theoretical, low-strength finding, not something proven in humans, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since hormone therapy works best at a steady level, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this herb. Please don't change your Bijuva on your own.
