Fosamprenavir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the situation with fosamprenavir. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to process this HIV medicine. Animal and lab studies hint that a compound in Schizonepeta may speed that enzyme up. If that happened in people, your body could clear fosamprenavir a little faster, leaving less of it in your blood to keep HIV under control.

With HIV treatment, steady drug levels really matter, since dips can let the virus rebound or build resistance over time. I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal work, not human studies, so we can't say it truly happens. Still, before adding Schizonepeta, please check with your HIV doctor or pharmacist first.

About Fosamprenavir

What Is Fosamprenavir Used For?

Brand names: Lexiva, Telzir

Fosamprenavir tablets (sold as Fosamprenavir Calcium and Lexiva) are used together with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and in children as young as 4 weeks old. It is not used alone — it is always part of a combination regimen.

For adults who have already taken protease inhibitor medicines before, fosamprenavir is used alongside a low dose of ritonavir. Once-daily dosing with ritonavir is not recommended for adults who have previously used protease inhibitors, or for any pediatric patients.
