Hydrocodone, Pseudoephedrine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's a wrinkle worth knowing about. Hydrocodone is actually a prodrug in part, meaning your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert some of it into hydromorphone, a stronger painkiller. Animal lab studies hint that Schizonepeta may slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, you might convert less hydrocodone into its stronger form, so you could get somewhat weaker pain relief rather than more.

I want to be straight with you: this is theoretical and based only on animal research, so it may not matter much in real life. The pseudoephedrine part isn't really affected here. Before adding this herb, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on whether your cough or pain medicine is still working for you.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the thing to know about this combo. Hydrocodone is partly turned into its pain-relieving form by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Early animal data hint that a compound in Schizonepeta may speed that enzyme up. If that happened in people, it could shift how much hydrocodone reaches your system, possibly making your cough or pain relief feel weaker than expected.

I'll be honest, though: this is only lab and animal research, so it's very theoretical and may not matter in real life, especially at small or traditional amounts. The pseudoephedrine side isn't really affected here. Before mixing the two, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your medicine is working.
