Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Spearmint interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with spearmint and capmatinib (Tabrecta). Capmatinib can be hard on the liver on its own, and your oncology team already watches your liver blood tests (AST and ALT) while you're on it. The concern here is simply about adding a second thing that might stress the liver. This isn't about spearmint changing how capmatinib is broken down or making the cancer drug stronger or weaker. It's about possible overlapping strain on the same organ.

I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern. The liver changes were seen in animals given spearmint over 30 days, not in people. A little spearmint in food or an occasional tea is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements are the real question, so check with your oncologist or pharmacist before using them.

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients whose tumors have a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
