Why this applies to Armodafinil

Armodafinil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with armodafinil (Nuvigil) and sulforaphane. Your body partly clears armodafinil using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes and animal studies, sulforaphane appears to slow that enzyme down. If that held true in people, your body would break armodafinil down a little slower, so more could build up. That might mean a stronger wakefulness effect along with more of its usual side effects, like headache, jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, nausea, or feeling anxious.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and has never actually been reported in humans. Broccoli on your plate is very unlikely to matter. A concentrated sulforaphane supplement is the real question, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Armodafinil Used For?

Brand name: Nuvigil

Armodafinil tablets (including the brand Nuvigil) are used to improve wakefulness in adults who have excessive sleepiness linked to one of three conditions: obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), narcolepsy, or shift work disorder (SWD).

In obstructive sleep apnea, armodafinil treats the sleepiness itself — not the underlying airway obstruction. If CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep) is the right treatment for you, your doctor should try that first before adding armodafinil for sleepiness.
