Cariprazine Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down cariprazine (Vraylar). In test tube and animal studies, sulforaphane appears to slow this enzyme down. If that held true in people, less cariprazine would get cleared and more could build up in your system, which could mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, trouble sleeping, or that uncomfortable urge to keep moving (akathisia).

Here's the reassuring part: this is theoretical for now and has not actually been seen in humans. Broccoli and other veggies on your plate are very unlikely to cause any problem. A concentrated sulforaphane supplement is the bigger question mark, so loop in your pharmacist or doctor before starting one.

What Is Cariprazine Used For?

Brand name: Vraylar

Vraylar (cariprazine) is approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and in adolescents aged 13 and older. It is also used for the acute treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults and in children aged 10 and older.

In adults, Vraylar is additionally approved to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression) and as an add-on (adjunctive) therapy alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD).
