Why this applies to Solifenacin succinate

Solifenacin succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear solifenacin (Vesicare) from your system. In lab and animal studies, sulforaphane appears to slow that enzyme down. If that same effect happened in people, solifenacin could linger longer and build up, which can amplify its usual side effects. With this drug, that might mean a dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, drowsiness, or a faster heartbeat.

Here's the reassuring part: this has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in humans, so it's mostly theoretical. Eating broccoli and other cruciferous veggies is very unlikely to cause trouble. A concentrated sulforaphane supplement is the bigger question mark, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding one.

What Is Solifenacin Used For?

Brand name: Vesicare

Solifenacin tablets (including the brands solifenacin succinate and VESIcare) are approved for adults with overactive bladder — specifically the symptoms of sudden urges to urinate, leaking urine due to those urges (urge urinary incontinence), and needing to urinate very frequently.

VESIcare LS oral suspension is approved for a different use: treating neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) — a bladder control problem caused by nerve damage or a nervous system condition — in children aged 2 years and older. This liquid formulation is dosed by the child's weight.
