Swamp milkweed contains cardioactive steroids known as cardenolides that may have digitalis-like activity. Excessive use of stimulant laxatives can cause diarrhea, resulting in potassium depletion. This might increase the risk of toxicity.

Here's the connection worth knowing. Casanthranol is a stimulant laxative, so it gets your bowels moving. If you lean on it too hard or use it for too long, you can lose a lot of fluid and, along with it, important minerals like potassium. Low potassium is the real issue here.

Swamp Milkweed contains compounds that act a bit like heart medicines (cardiac glycosides). Those compounds become more dangerous to the heart when potassium runs low, which can mean an irregular or unsafe heart rhythm. So it isn't that one drug changes how the other is broken down, it's that overusing the laxative can set the stage for the milkweed to cause trouble. This is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not strong human data. Honestly, Swamp Milkweed isn't a safe supplement to begin with, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.
