Swamp milkweed contains cardioactive steroids known as cardenolides that may have digitalis-like activity. Potassium depletion can increase the risk of cardenolide toxicity.

Here's the concern with pairing these two. Indapamide is a thiazide-like water pill, and one thing it can do is lower your body's potassium level. Swamp milkweed contains heart-active compounds (cardenolides) that work a bit like the heart medicine digoxin. When potassium runs low, those heart-affecting compounds can become more potent and potentially more toxic, which could throw off your heart rhythm. So it's not that the drug breaks down the supplement; it's that the low potassium from the diuretic sets the stage for trouble.

To be fair, this is a theoretical worry based on how these substances behave, not on solid human studies. Still, swamp milkweed is genuinely toxic and isn't something to take as a supplement. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
