Prednisolone falls under CORTICOSTEROIDS — the group Swamp Milkweed interacts with.

Theoretically, taking swamp milkweed with prolonged corticosteroid therapy might increase the risk of toxicity.
Swamp milkweed contains cardioactive steroids known as cardenolides that may have digitalis-like activity. Long-term corticosteroid use can lead to potassium depletion and electrolyte imbalance, which can increase the risk of cardenolide toxicity.

Here's the concern with pairing swamp milkweed and prednisolone. Swamp milkweed contains heart-active compounds called cardenolides that behave a little like the heart medication digitalis. Prednisolone itself isn't the problem here, but when it's taken for a long stretch it can slowly lower your potassium and throw off your body's mineral balance. Low potassium is exactly what makes those milkweed heart compounds more dangerous, so the two together could raise the risk of toxicity (think irregular heartbeat, nausea, or feeling faint).

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not on real patient studies. Swamp milkweed isn't a safe supplement to take anyway, given its toxicity. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.

Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.

It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).
