Isoniazid falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Sweet Clover interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of sweet clover with hepatoxic drugs might increase the risk of hepatotoxicity.
Orally, large amounts of sweet clover can cause transient liver injury in susceptible individuals, possibly due to coumarin content. In one case report, a patient with multiple sclerosis developed jaundiced palms and a slight elevation in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) after taking sweet clover containing coumarin 10 mg daily for 3 years. Two weeks after starting therapy with subcutaneous interferon (IFN)-beta 1b, aspartate transaminase (AST) and ALT levels increased to 7 and 17 times the upper limit of normal, respectively. Levels normalized after discontinuation of both products. Subsequent use of IFN-beta 1a alone, without sweet clover, resulted in only a very slight increase in AST.

Here's the thing to know about isoniazid: it's already one of the medications most likely to be tough on the liver. Doctors often check your liver enzymes while you're on it for exactly that reason. Sweet clover contains coumarin, which in larger supplement amounts has been linked to liver irritation too. So the worry here is simple math: two things that can each stress the liver, used together, may add up.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern based on how each works, not proven by strong studies. Still, with isoniazid I'd play it safe. Watch for warning signs like yellowing of your skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these two.

About Isoniazid

What Is Isoniazid Used For?

Brand names: Laniazid, INH, Nydrazid

Isoniazid is used to treat all forms of tuberculosis (TB) caused by susceptible bacteria. Because TB bacteria can quickly become resistant to a single drug, isoniazid must always be combined with other anti-TB medications when treating active TB — it is never used alone for active disease.

Isoniazid is also used as preventive therapy (sometimes called latent TB treatment) for people who have a positive TB skin test but do not yet have active disease. This includes people with HIV infection, close contacts of someone with active TB, recent TB skin test converters, and people with certain medical conditions — such as silicosis, diabetes mellitus, end-stage renal disease, leukemia, or Hodgkin's disease — that raise their TB risk.
