Fresh sweet clover contains coumarinic acids, which are converted to free coumarins during drying. Dicoumarol, which has anticoagulant activity, also has been found in some sweet clover preparations and can be formed if fresh sweet clover is allowed to spoil.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. The interaction on file flags sweet clover as a possible bleeding risk because spoiled or improperly dried sweet clover can form dicoumarol, a compound that acts like a blood thinner. So we're really talking about a clotting-and-bleeding concern, not a change in how selumetinib (Koselugo) gets broken down.

Selumetinib itself can sometimes affect blood counts and cause bruising or bleeding, so stacking another product that thins the blood could theoretically add to that. I'll be honest though: this is theoretical, based on how the herb behaves, not on solid human studies. Quality and freshness matter a lot here. Before adding sweet clover, please check with your child's oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
