Terminalia and Sulfacetamide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Sulfacetamide and Terminalia in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Sulfacetamide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Sulfacetamide is filed under a single classification — photosensitizing drugs. Terminalia has documented interactions with 7 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate), antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and chlorzoxazone (parafon forte, paraflex) (moderate) — and none of Sulfacetamide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Sulfacetamide’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Terminalia. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Sulfacetamide’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 6 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A severe skin reaction Worth acting on
  • An allergic reaction Worth acting on mentioned in 9.1% of FDA reports for Sulfacetamide
  • Anemia Worth acting on
  • A low white blood cell count Worth acting on
  • Liver problems Worth acting on
  • A higher chance of infection Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Sulfacetamide. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 724 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Sulfacetamide that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Terminalia’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Terminalia side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Terminalia has no side effects.

About Terminalia

What is Terminalia?

Terminalia
  • Heart health and circulation
  • Digestive problems (constipation, diarrhea)
  • Cholesterol support
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support
  • Immune support

Terminalia is a group of traditional Ayurvedic tree species (most notably Terminalia arjuna) used for heart, digestive, and general wellness purposes. Some small studies suggest possible benefits for heart and cholesterol health, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a heart condition.

Terminalia arjuna · Combretaceae · Bark, fruit, and leaves (depending on species) · Capsules, tablets, powder (churna), bark extract, decoction/tea

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Terminalia is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Terminalia record says about it on its own.

Terminalia: dosing

There is no official or well-established standard dose for Terminalia. Doses used in studies vary widely depending on the species, the part of the plant, and the type of extract.Because of this, the best advice is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount. A pharmacist or doctor can help you decide whether a product is appropriate for you and review the label. Avoid combining multiple supplements that contain Terminalia, since this can increase your total dose without you realizing it.

About Sulfacetamide Ophthalmic

What Is Sulfacetamide Ophthalmic Used For?

Brand name: AK-Sulf

Sulfacetamide Sodium Ophthalmic Solution USP, 10% is used to treat conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other superficial infections on the surface of the eye caused by susceptible bacteria. These include bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella species, and others.

It is also used alongside systemic (oral or injectable) sulfonamide antibiotic therapy in the treatment of trachoma, a serious bacterial eye infection. It is important to note that this medication does not work against all types of bacteria — it does not provide adequate coverage against Neisseria species, Serratia marcescens, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and some staph bacteria are fully resistant to it.
