Tragacanth contains hydrocolloidal fiber which can decrease, increase, or not affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take tragacanth 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the simple version: tragacanth is a thick, gel-forming gum, and when it's in your stomach at the same time as a pill like clobazam, that gel could theoretically grab onto the medicine and change how much gets absorbed. It might lower the amount that reaches your bloodstream, or in some cases nudge it up. This isn't a metabolism issue, so it doesn't change how clobazam works once it's in you. It's purely about timing in the gut.

Why this matters with clobazam: it's a seizure medicine, so even small dips in absorption could mean less seizure control, and a bump up could add drowsiness or unsteadiness. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on how the gum behaves, not on real-world cases. A safe habit is to take your clobazam first and wait 30 to 60 minutes before tragacanth. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Tragacanth is a plant gum used mainly as a thickener and emulsifier in foods, cosmetics, and medicines, and traditionally to soothe the throat and gut. Clobazam is used as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of childhood-onset epilepsy. It is approved for patients 2 years of age and older.

This indication applies to all available forms: Sympazan (dissolving oral film), Onfi (tablets and oral suspension), and generic clobazam tablets and oral suspension.
