In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination cold product has four ingredients, but the one that matters here is dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant. Your body clears dextromethorphan mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. The berberine in tree turmeric can slow that enzyme down, so the dextromethorphan may not break down as quickly and could build up a bit more than usual.
If that happens, you might feel more of dextromethorphan's typical effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy, lightheaded feeling. The other ingredients (acetaminophen, guaifenesin, pseudoephedrine) aren't the concern with this particular interaction. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical, based on lab work and limited human data, so it's usually mild. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before pairing them.

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
This combo cold product has four ingredients, but the one that matters most here is dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant. The berberine in tree turmeric can gently slow down CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear dextromethorphan. When that pathway is partly blocked, a bit more of the drug can linger in your system, which may add to side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy.
To be fair, this is mostly theoretical and the effect from berberine is considered moderate, so a single dose probably won't cause trouble for most people. The acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and pseudoephedrine pieces aren't really affected by this. If you take tree turmeric regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with this cold medicine.
