Busulfan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the short version for busulfan (Myleran, Busulfex). The berberine in tree turmeric can mildly block a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the routes your body uses to clear busulfan. If that pathway slows down, busulfan levels could drift a little higher than expected, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like low blood counts, mouth sores, nausea, or fatigue.

Busulfan is a powerful chemo drug where the dose is carefully measured, so even modest shifts matter more than with everyday medicines. The evidence here is mostly lab-based and theoretical, not proven in people taking busulfan, so I wouldn't panic. Please don't start or stop anything on your own; loop in your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Busulfan Used For?

Brand names: Myleran, Busulfex

Busulfan is used to treat chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The specific use depends on the form and product.

Myleran (oral tablet) is used for the palliative treatment of CML — meaning it helps control the disease and relieve symptoms. The intravenous injection forms (Busulfex and Busulfan Injection) are used in combination with another chemotherapy drug, cyclophosphamide, as a conditioning regimen to prepare the body before an allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cell transplant (a bone marrow or stem cell transplant from a donor) for CML.
