Doravirine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the thing with doravirine (Pifeltro): your body relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear it from your system. Berberine, the active compound in tree turmeric, appears to slow that enzyme down. When the cleanup crew works slower, doravirine can build up a bit higher than usual in your blood.

Doravirine is generally pretty well tolerated, but higher levels could mean a greater chance of side effects like headache, nausea, dizziness, or trouble sleeping. The good news is this is mostly a theoretical concern based on lab work and early human data, not a long track record of real-world problems. Still, since keeping HIV treatment steady matters so much, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these two rather than changing anything on your own.

About Doravirine

What Is Doravirine Used For?

Brand name: Pifeltro

Pifeltro (doravirine) is used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and in children and adolescents who weigh at least 35 kg (about 77 lbs). It is always used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines — never on its own.

Pifeltro is approved for two groups: people who have never taken HIV treatment before, and people who are already virologically suppressed (meaning HIV is undetectable in their blood) on a stable regimen and need to switch, provided they have no history of treatment failure or known resistance to doravirine.
