Here's the gist with tolterodine (Detrol): your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to break it down. The berberine in tree turmeric may slow that enzyme down a bit. Tolterodine is active as-is (not a prodrug), so if it clears more slowly, levels can creep up and you might feel its effects more strongly.

In real life that could mean more of the usual antimuscarinic side effects: dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat. The good news is this is mostly theoretical and based on lab and early human data, so it isn't a sure thing. Still, before pairing the two, check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh it for you.

Here's the simple version: your body clears tolterodine partly using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. When the cleanup crew works slower, more tolterodine can hang around in your system, which may bump up its effects and side effects.

For tolterodine, that usually means more of the typical anticholinergic stuff: dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, drowsiness, or a faster heartbeat. This is graded as a moderate, probable interaction, so it's worth taking seriously, though concentrated berberine supplements matter far more than a pinch used in cooking. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can guide you safely.

Tolterodine — available as tablets (including Detrol and Tolterodine Tartrate tablets) and extended-release capsules (including Detrol LA and Tolterodine Tartrate extended-release capsules) — is prescribed for overactive bladder. It targets three main symptoms: a sudden, hard-to-control urge to urinate (urgency), urinating too often (frequency), and leaking urine when that urge hits (urge urinary incontinence).
