Abrocitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Turkey Tail Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) component of turkey tail mushroom might inhibit CYP2C9.
Laboratory research suggests that the PSP component of turkey tail mushroom dose-dependently inhibits CYP2C9. Theoretically, taking PSP with drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 might increase drug levels and the risk of adverse effects. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: a component of turkey tail mushroom called PSP might slow down a liver enzyme (CYP2C9) that helps clear abrocitinib from your body. If that enzyme works more slowly, abrocitinib could build up a bit, which in theory might nudge up its effects and side effects. For a JAK inhibitor like Cibinqo, that could mean things like nausea, headache, acne-like breakouts, or a higher chance of infections from a more dampened immune system.

The important part: this is only a theoretical, lab-based concern, and it hasn't actually been seen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both this mushroom and abrocitinib act on your immune system, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
