Fluvastatin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Turkey Tail Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) component of turkey tail mushroom might inhibit CYP2C9.
Laboratory research suggests that the PSP component of turkey tail mushroom dose-dependently inhibits CYP2C9. Theoretically, taking PSP with drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 might increase drug levels and the risk of adverse effects. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Fluvastatin (Lescol). Your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP2C9 to break this statin down. In test-tube studies, the PSP component of turkey tail seemed to slow that enzyme. If that held true in people, fluvastatin could clear a little more slowly and build up slightly in your blood.

What might that look like? Mostly the usual statin complaints, things like muscle aches, soreness, or weakness. The good news is this is theoretical, drawn only from lab work and never actually reported in humans, so it's rated minor. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but if you'd like to add turkey tail, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor first and mention any new muscle pain.

Turkey tail is a woodland mushroom rich in polysaccharides like beta-glucans, and it is mainly used to support the immune system. Some of its purified extracts (PSK and PSP) have been studied as add-on treatments alongside conventional cancer therapy in Asia, but evidence for everyday supplement use is limited. It is generally well tolerated, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a health condition or take other medicines.

About Fluvastatin

What Is Fluvastatin Used For?

Brand names: Lescol, Lescol XL

Fluvastatin capsules are used alongside diet to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, and to raise HDL cholesterol in adults with primary hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) or mixed dyslipidemia (abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels). Fluvastatin capsules are also used in boys and girls aged 10–16 who have heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited form of high cholesterol) when diet alone has not worked. In adults with clinically evident coronary heart disease (CHD), fluvastatin capsules may reduce the risk of needing a coronary revascularization procedure (a procedure to restore blood flow, such as angioplasty) and can slow the progression of coronary atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in heart arteries).

Fluvastatin sodium extended-release tablets and Lescol XL (extended-release tablet) share similar uses: reducing LDL cholesterol in adults with primary hyperlipidemia, reducing LDL in adults and children aged 10 and older with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia who require the highest available dose, and reducing cardiovascular risk in adults with established coronary heart disease. Fluvastatin is always used together with a cholesterol-lowering diet, not as a replacement for one.
