Losartan Potassium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Turkey Tail Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) component of turkey tail mushroom might inhibit CYP2C9.
Laboratory research suggests that the PSP component of turkey tail mushroom dose-dependently inhibits CYP2C9. Theoretically, taking PSP with drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 might increase drug levels and the risk of adverse effects. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's a wrinkle worth knowing about losartan: it's actually a prodrug. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to convert losartan into its active form, which is what does most of the heavy lifting in lowering your blood pressure. The PSP component in turkey tail has been shown, in lab dishes only, to slow down that same enzyme.

So in theory, turkey tail could mean less of the active drug forms, which might make losartan work a little weaker on your blood pressure. That said, this is purely a test-tube finding and has never actually been seen in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you take both, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Keeping blood pressure under control lowers the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged heart muscle). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients. Additionally, losartan treats diabetic nephropathy — kidney damage caused by type 2 diabetes — in people who also have high blood pressure.
