Montelukast Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Turkey Tail Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) component of turkey tail mushroom might inhibit CYP2C9.
Laboratory research suggests that the PSP component of turkey tail mushroom dose-dependently inhibits CYP2C9. Theoretically, taking PSP with drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 might increase drug levels and the risk of adverse effects. However, this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for your Singulair. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 (along with a couple of others) to clear montelukast out of your system. In lab dishes, the PSP part of turkey tail mushroom seemed to slow that enzyme down. If that were to happen in a real person, montelukast could clear a little more slowly and build up slightly, which in theory might nudge up side effects like headache, stomach upset, or feeling unusually tired.

The reassuring part: this is only test-tube data, and nothing like it has actually been reported in people taking both. Montelukast is also a pretty forgiving, low-risk medicine. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's always smart to let your pharmacist or doctor know you're adding turkey tail.

What Is Montelukast Used For?

Montelukast is used for the long-term prevention and treatment of asthma in children and adults, and for preventing breathing problems triggered by exercise (exercise-induced bronchoconstriction). It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round nasal allergies). The age ranges covered depend on the specific product form — tablets, chewable tablets, and oral granules are each approved for different age groups.

For allergic rhinitis, montelukast should be reserved for people who haven't responded well to other treatments, because its potential mental health risks may outweigh the benefits when nasal allergy symptoms are mild and other options work. It is not a rescue treatment for sudden asthma attacks — always keep a fast-acting inhaler on hand.
