Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUININE
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Quinine and Wahoo. Quinine itself can affect your heart's rhythm, including a change on the ECG called QT prolongation. Wahoo contains heart-active compounds (called cardenolides) that can stress the heart in their own way. Put the two together and, at least in theory, you could stack one heart effect on top of another, raising the risk of palpitations, dizziness, fainting, or a dangerous irregular heartbeat.
I'll be honest with you: this warning is based on how these substances work, not on real-world reports, so it's theoretical. But Wahoo is a genuinely poisonous plant with no proven benefit, so I really wouldn't use it at all. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with quinine.

About Wahoo
What is Wahoo?
- Constipation (traditional laxative)
- Digestive complaints
- Liver and gallbladder support (folk use)
- Fluid retention (traditional diuretic)
- Skin irritations (folk use)
Wahoo is a North American shrub historically used as a laxative and 'liver tonic,' but it is a poisonous plant with no proven benefit and a real risk of serious harm. Because it contains heart-affecting and other toxic compounds, we do not recommend using it, and there is no established safe dose.
