Methazolamide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Wahoo interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium-depleting diuretics with wahoo can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

First things first: Wahoo is a poisonous plant that we simply don't recommend, so the safest move is to avoid it entirely. Here's the concern when it comes to your glaucoma medication. Methazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and like many water pills, it can lower your body's potassium over time. Wahoo carries heart-active compounds called cardenolides, and when potassium runs low, those heart effects can become more dangerous.

So the worry isn't that one changes how the other is broken down. It's that both push in a risky direction at once, low potassium plus heart-affecting toxins. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than real case reports. Still, please don't use Wahoo, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor about your potassium.

What Is Methazolamide Used For?

Brand name: Neptazane

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
