Methazolamide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ashwagandha with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that ashwagandha might lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Theoretically, ashwagandha might have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypotension.

Here's the gist: this interaction is grouped under blood pressure medicines because ashwagandha may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Methazolamide is a bit of an odd fit here. It's a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor used for glaucoma, and while it isn't a classic blood pressure drug, it does act as a mild diuretic and can nudge your blood pressure and fluid balance a little.

So if you pair the two, you could in theory feel more lightheaded, dizzy, or washed out, especially when standing up quickly. Honestly, the evidence here is only from animal and lab studies, so it's theoretical and not something I'd lose sleep over. Still, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before starting ashwagandha, and let them know if you feel dizzy.

What Is Methazolamide Used For?

Brand name: Neptazane

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
