Wahoo + Theobromine
Theobromine brand name: Theobromine.
Wahoo has a moderate interaction with Theobromine. Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium-depleting diuretics with wahoo can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion.

DIURETIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Theobromine
Theobromine falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Wahoo interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about this pairing: theobromine (the caffeine-like compound found in cocoa and chocolate) has a mild diuretic effect, meaning it can make you urinate a bit more. The concern on file is that water pills which flush out potassium can lower your potassium levels, and low potassium makes the heart more sensitive to the heart-active compounds (cardenolides) found in wahoo. That combination could raise the risk of toxic effects on the heart.
I want to be honest about how strong this worry is. This is a theoretical caution based on how these things work, not on real cases, and theobromine is a weak diuretic at best. The much bigger issue is that wahoo itself is a poisonous plant we don't recommend at all. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Theobromine page
“Theobromine, the caffeine cousin found in chocolate and used medically as a mild diuretic and blood vessel relaxer, deserves real care around supplements. Most of the trouble runs through its diuretic action: dozens of herbs, from aloe latex to apple cider vinegar, either add their own fluid-losing effect or drain potassium, and togeth…”

About Wahoo
What is Wahoo?
- Constipation (traditional laxative)
- Digestive complaints
- Liver and gallbladder support (folk use)
- Fluid retention (traditional diuretic)
- Skin irritations (folk use)
Wahoo is a North American shrub historically used as a laxative and 'liver tonic,' but it is a poisonous plant with no proven benefit and a real risk of serious harm. Because it contains heart-affecting and other toxic compounds, we do not recommend using it, and there is no established safe dose.
