Here's the idea behind this pairing. Wahoo contains heart-active compounds called cardenolides, which act a lot like cardiac glycosides (think digoxin). Tetracycline antibiotics like omadacycline (Nuzyra) can change the balance of bacteria in your gut. Some gut bacteria normally break down cardiac glycosides, so wiping them out could let more of those heart-active substances stick around, raising the risk of toxicity.

To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how these drugs work, not something well documented in real patients. Signs of cardiac glycoside toxicity can include nausea, vomiting, a slow or irregular heartbeat, and confusion. The bigger issue is that Wahoo itself is a poisonous plant we don't recommend at all. Please don't combine these, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Omadacycline Injection

What Is Omadacycline Injection Used For?

Brand name: Nuzyra

Nuzyra (omadacycline) injection is used in adults to treat two types of serious bacterial infections: community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) — a lung infection picked up outside of a hospital — and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), which include serious skin infections such as those caused by MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Nuzyra works only against bacterial infections. It is not effective against viral illnesses like the flu or common cold. Your doctor will prescribe it only when a bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected, to help prevent the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
