Polythiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Wahoo interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium-depleting diuretics with wahoo can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the thing to know if you take Polythiazide (Renese) alongside wahoo. Polythiazide is a thiazide-type water pill, and one of its well-known effects is that it can lower your body's potassium over time. Wahoo, meanwhile, contains heart-active compounds called cardenolides (similar in action to digoxin-type substances). When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those compounds, which raises the risk of irregular or dangerous heart rhythms.

I'll be honest: this concern is theoretical, based on how these substances work rather than on actual case reports of the two together. But wahoo is a genuinely poisonous plant with no proven benefit, so I really wouldn't recommend using it at all. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with your blood pressure medicine.
