Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium-depleting diuretics with wahoo can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

First things first: I really wouldn't reach for Wahoo at all. It's a poisonous plant with no proven benefit, and it naturally contains heart-active compounds (cardenolides) similar to digitalis-type drugs. That's the real worry here.

Your blood pressure combo includes hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill that can lower your body's potassium. When potassium drops, those heart-affecting substances in Wahoo can hit harder, raising the theoretical risk of an irregular or dangerous heartbeat. To be fair, this concern is based on how these compounds work on paper, not on solid human studies. Still, with a potassium-lowering diuretic on board, it's not worth the gamble. Please don't take Wahoo, and check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have questions.

What Is Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Zestoretic, Prinzide

Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold as the brand Zestoretic and as the generic combination — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.

This is a fixed-dose combination product and is not intended as a first-line (initial) treatment for high blood pressure. It is typically prescribed for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on a single medication alone.
