Thioridazine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Wild Lettuce interacts with.

Studies report varying evidence on whether or not wild lettuce contains hyoscyamine, an anticholinergic drug. If it does, it appears to be in very low amounts. Nevertheless, there have been case reports of individuals consuming large amounts of wild lettuce experiencing anticholinergic-related side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating. Therefore, if you are already taking a drug with anticholinergic effects, you should be cautious about combining it with wild lettuce as the risk of side effects may be increased.

Here's the gist with thioridazine: it already carries quite a few anticholinergic (drying) effects of its own, things like dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness, and trouble urinating. Wild lettuce may add a little anticholinergic activity on top, mostly seen when people take large amounts, so stacking the two could make those drying side effects more noticeable.

I'll be honest, the evidence here is thin. It isn't even clear that wild lettuce reliably contains the anticholinergic compound in question, and if it does, it's in tiny amounts. This won't change thioridazine's main effect or how your body clears it. Still, since thioridazine is a stronger antipsychotic with real side effects, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding wild lettuce.

What Is Thioridazine Used For?

Brand name: Mellaril

Thioridazine Hydrochloride tablets are used for the management of schizophrenia — but only in patients who have already tried at least two other antipsychotic medications without adequate results, either because those drugs didn't work well enough or caused intolerable side effects.

Because thioridazine carries serious heart-rhythm risks, it is considered a last-resort option for schizophrenia, not a first-line treatment. It is not approved for dementia-related psychosis or any other psychiatric condition.
