Cassava root carries some real safety concerns you should know about. Raw or poorly processed cassava can cause cyanide poisoning, with symptoms including nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, dizziness, weakness, and headache.

Concentrated cassava supplements are not well studied and are best avoided because of these cyanide risks. Cassava has also been linked to an increased risk of low thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism) and thyroid enlargement.

Rarely, people with a latex allergy have had allergic reactions to cassava, ranging from hives and swelling to difficulty breathing and anaphylaxis. There isn't enough safety data to recommend this product during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
