What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Beet Root against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Beet Root by Bronson
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Bronson Beet Root contains one active ingredient: beet root extract, a concentrated form of the nutrient-rich beet vegetable. It comes in tablet or pill form and includes several inactive ingredients—microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and polyethylene glycol—which serve as binders, flow agents, and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for beet root is mixed. It's possibly effective for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness based on the data we hold.
For chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective. For cholesterol and cognitive function, the evidence isn't established enough in our data to rate it one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beet as a whole food is widely eaten and generally well tolerated by most adults. However, concentrated supplements like this one lack robust safety data, so use caution.
Short-term use appears well tolerated overall, but the most common side effects are red stools and red urine—these are harmless color changes from the pigment. Rare serious effects with large amounts include low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) and kidney damage from oxaluric acid content.
One case report noted black stools in an older person on blood thinners who took beet pills, though the likelihood of serious bleeding was judged low. There is no safety data on file for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before starting if you take CYP3A4 substrates (a major drug group that includes many heart, cholesterol, and other medications), CYP1A2 substrates, or blood pressure medications. The interaction checker on this page will search your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Beet root extract may help with athletic performance or exercise soreness if that's your goal. But because it interacts with a large number of medications through liver enzyme systems, you'll want to check your exact prescriptions before starting—especially blood pressure, heart, and cholesterol drugs.

Beet Root by Bronson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Bronson Beet Root Extract has documented interactions with medication types that your liver processes through specific enzyme systems.
The most serious concern is with CYP3A4 substrates (a major enzyme system)—beet may theoretically increase the levels of these drugs in your bloodstream, potentially making them stronger than intended. In vitro research suggests that betanin, beet's main pigment, inhibits this enzyme similarly to the strong inhibitor ketoconazole.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beet also theoretically decreases the effectiveness of CYP1A2 substrates (another enzyme group) by increasing how quickly your liver breaks them down. Additionally, because beet contains nitrates that can lower blood pressure, there's a minor theoretical risk with blood pressure medications, though a clinical study found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate with concentrated beetroot juice.
Altogether, these interactions span 850 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, run your exact prescriptions through the interaction checker below—especially if you take heart or cholesterol drugs, antidepressants, or blood pressure medications.

Beet Root Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
