Eucalyptus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Pure Herbs
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Eucalyptus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
Pure Herbs Eucalyptus is a liquid extract containing one active ingredient: eucalyptus leaf extract. There are no inactive ingredients listed for this product.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold for eucalyptus leaf extract is insufficient to rate how well it works. The data shows insufficient reliable evidence for acne, bronchitis, asthma, burns, and cancer — meaning we don't have enough solid research yet to say whether it's effective for these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Eucalyptus is generally well tolerated in small amounts for inhalation or diluted topical use, but the undiluted oil can be poisonous if swallowed. Taken by mouth, diluted eucalyptus oil most commonly causes diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
Applied to skin, it may cause burning, itching, redness, or stinging. The undiluted oil carries serious risks — as little as 1 mL can cause toxicity with signs including central nervous system depression, shallow breathing, seizures, coma, and death.
Seizures have been reported with all routes (inhalation, topical, and oral). Rarely, eucalyptus has triggered or worsened asthma and allergic skin reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation safety data show eucalyptus is likely safe, but avoid oral use and keep the oil away from babies.

Moderate interaction found
Before using this product, have your doctor or pharmacist check your list if you take diabetes medications (risk of low blood sugar), amphetamines, pentobarbital, or any drug broken down by your liver's CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 enzymes. All of these carry Moderate interactions based on lab and animal research that hasn't been tested in humans yet.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pure Herbs Eucalyptus Leaf Extract may work best for inhalation or diluted topical use — not for swallowing. It has Moderate interactions with diabetes medications, amphetamines, barbiturates, and several major drug-metabolizing pathways, so check your medications before starting.

Eucalyptus by Pure Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Herbs Eucalyptus Leaf Extract interacts with a broad range of medications through its effects on how your liver metabolizes drugs.
The most serious concern is with a class of diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs) — eucalyptus may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if used together, based on animal research.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The product also theoretically affects how your body processes several major medication categories. These include drugs metabolized by CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4 — enzyme systems your liver uses to break down and clear many common medications.
In lab studies, eucalyptus oil appears to slow this process, which could raise drug levels in your blood. These are all Moderate severity interactions, but they haven't been confirmed in human studies yet — the evidence comes from test-tube research.
Additionally, inhaling eucalyptol (eucalyptus's main compound) may reduce the effectiveness of amphetamines and pentobarbital (a barbiturate sedative), based on animal studies. Altogether, these interactions span 879 individual medications.
Because the effects depend on dose, route (inhaled versus swallowed), and individual metabolism, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before using this product. If you take any of these drug types — especially diabetes medication — talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first.
