What’s inside
Full disclosure
Formula 343 contains one active ingredient: blue-green algae (spirulina). Blue-green algae is a nutrient-dense cyanobacteria that's been studied for potential effects on blood pressure, immune function, and blood sugar.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients—gelatin, vegetable cellulose, and an enzyme blend—that serve as the capsule shell and processing aids.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for blue-green algae is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly effective for high blood pressure based on available research.
For acne, hay fever, iron deficiency anemia, and arsenic poisoning, the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it one way or another. If you're considering this product for any of those conditions, talk with your doctor about whether the current evidence supports a trial.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Blue-green algae is generally well tolerated by mouth, though some people report abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, flatulence, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Allergic reactions, including rashes and itching, have occurred; in rare cases, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) has been reported.
A few cases of mild gum bleeding and bruising have also been documented in people taking the supplement. The most important safety caveat is contamination risk.
Quality varies widely among blue-green algae products, and some can contain toxins or heavy metals. The safety data available is limited, and because of contamination concerns, the evidence leans toward caution or avoidance.
Pregnancy and lactation safety data are not on file for this ingredient—talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, immunosuppressants, or diabetes medications, check them against this product's interactions first. These are the three medication types with documented interactions in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Formula 343 may be worth considering if you're looking at blue-green algae for blood pressure support, but only if you don't take blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or diabetes medications. The biggest question mark is product quality and contamination risk.
Before you start, check your exact medications against the interaction tool below and discuss the choice with your own doctor or pharmacist.

Formula 343 by DC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Formula 343 by DC contains blue-green algae, which interacts with three major medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin): blue-green algae may theoretically increase bleeding risk, though this is unlikely in practice. One small preliminary study suggested the effect is minimal.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blue-green algae can also interfere with immunosuppressant medications by stimulating your immune system, potentially reducing how well those drugs work. Additionally, it may lower blood sugar levels when combined with diabetes medications, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Human research shows spirulina can have blood-sugar-lowering effects, though it doesn't seem to improve long-term glucose control.
Altogether, these interactions span 327 individual medications. We recommend checking your exact prescriptions with the interaction checker on this page before starting.

Blue-Green Algae
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, spirulina blue-green algae might increase the risk of bleeding if used with other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. However, this is unlikely.
Spirulina blue-green algae have shown antiplatelet and anticoagulant effects in vitro. However, one preliminary study in 24 patients receiving spirulina blue-green algae 2.3 grams daily for 2 weeks showed no effect on platelet activation or measures of clotting time.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking blue-green algae with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Human research shows that spirulina blue-green algae can have hypoglycemic effects in patients with diabetes, at least some of whom were using antidiabetes drugs. However, blue-green algae does not seem to improve glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in patients with diabetes. A meta-analysis of animal studies also suggests that spirulina blue-green algae have hypoglycemic effects.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of blue-green algae might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Blue-green algae have been shown to stimulate the immune system.
