Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Guggulhills is a single-ingredient supplement: guggul extract, a resin from the mukul myrrh tree traditionally used in Ayurveda. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients—xanthan gum, maize starch, silica, HPMC (a capsule material), and magnesium—that serve as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for guggul isn't strong enough to rely on yet. For obesity, the data we have suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For acne, hemorrhoids, and high cholesterol, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. If you're considering this for any of those reasons, talk with your doctor about what the research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Guggul is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but digestive upset is common—belching, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and an unpleasant taste can happen. Skin reactions (rash, itching, swelling) are also reported, and they seem to get more likely at higher doses.
A very small number of people have had serious muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), though it's rare. The safety data advises against guggul during pregnancy because it may stimulate the uterus and safety isn't established.
There also isn't enough information to know if it's safe while breastfeeding, so it's best avoided then too. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Guggulhills, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin (moderate risk of increased bleeding), heart medications like propranolol or diltiazem (it may weaken them), birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy (it may interfere), the cancer drug tamoxifen, thyroid hormone replacement, or any medications processed through your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme—a very wide group that includes certain statins and some blood pressure drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Guggulhills might appeal to someone looking for a traditional herbal remedy, but the evidence for it working is limited, and it interacts with quite a few medications—especially blood thinners, heart drugs, birth control, and thyroid hormones. If you take any prescription medications or are pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Guggulhills by Herbal Hills Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Guggulhills by Herbal Hills contains guggul extract, which interacts with several important medication types.
The most serious documented concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel)—guggul may increase your bleeding risk by potentially thinning your blood itself.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Guggul also moderately interacts with beta-blockers like propranolol and calcium channel blockers like diltiazem; it may reduce how well these heart medications work. The extract can speed up how your liver processes many other drugs through an enzyme called CYP3A4, potentially weakening their effects.
That's a wide net—it includes certain statins, some blood pressure medications, and many others.
Additionally, guggul has estrogen-like activity in your body. If you take birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy (estrogens), guggul may interfere with them or increase side effects.
The same concern applies to tamoxifen, a breast cancer medication. Guggul may also stimulate your thyroid, so if you take thyroid hormone replacement, the two together could cause problems.
Although we hold interaction data for guggul extract, the only ingredient in this product, you'll want to run your exact medications through the checker on this page before starting.
