Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: hemp aerial parts extract from the hemp plant. It's supplied as a liquid tincture at 50 mg per serving in a base of medium chain triglyceride oil (an inactive ingredient used to dissolve and deliver the extract).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for hemp aerial parts extract isn't established in our data. We hold effectiveness ratings for constipation, atopic dermatitis (eczema), and familial hypercholesterolemia, but all are marked insufficient reliable evidence to rate—meaning there isn't enough quality research to say whether it works for these purposes.

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods are generally well tolerated in normal amounts, but concentrated extracts like this tincture are less studied. Serious adverse effects are rare but have been reported: anaphylaxis, facial swelling, and shortness of breath can occur in people with hemp seed allergy (uncommon).

Case reports also mention long QT syndrome (a heart rhythm problem) and rare cases of elevated liver enzymes in children given high-dose hemp extract. Since you're using a concentrated extract rather than whole food, discussing this with your pharmacist beforehand makes sense.

Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you're on hormone therapy (estrogens)—a Moderate interaction is documented. Also double-check if you take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, ACE inhibitors, or any medications broken down by your liver's CYP1A2 or CYP3A4 enzymes, as Minor interactions are possible.

Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Hemp CBD Tincture Classic 50 mg by RE: Botanicals: Common Questions

Does Hemp CBD Tincture Classic 50 mg by RE: Botanicals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Hemp CBD Tincture Classic 50 mg has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Hemp CBD Tincture Classic 50 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does this hemp tincture actually work for anything?
We don't have established evidence that hemp aerial parts extract is effective for the conditions it's marketed for—constipation, eczema, or high cholesterol. The research data shows insufficient evidence to rate it. If you're thinking of trying it for a specific reason, ask your pharmacist whether there's any research behind your particular use.
Is this safe if I'm on birth control or hormone therapy?
Hemp may theoretically interfere with how your body handles estrogen, based on animal studies. If you're on any form of hormone therapy, including birth control, this is worth a conversation with your pharmacist or doctor before you start, since the interaction is rated Moderate.
Can this cause an allergic reaction?
Hemp seed allergies are uncommon, but they can happen. Case reports describe hives, facial swelling, shortness of breath, and in rare cases anaphylaxis. If you've never had hemp products before, it's worth being cautious, especially if you have other food allergies.
What's the difference between this extract and hemp seed oil I can buy at the grocery store?
This is a concentrated extract, whereas grocery-store hemp seed oil and hemp seed foods are less concentrated. Concentrated extracts like this one are less well studied for safety, which is why caution is advised. If you're comfortable with food amounts of hemp seed, that doesn't automatically mean a supplement extract is equally safe.
Will this interact with my blood pressure medication?
Yes, a Minor interaction is documented. Hemp seed protein has shown blood-pressure-lowering effects in animal studies, so it could theoretically add to what your medication does and lower your blood pressure more than intended. Check your specific medication with our tool and talk to your pharmacist.
