Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: hemp extract. It's combined with organic extra virgin olive oil and a vegetable capsule as inactive ingredients.

Hemp extract comes from the hemp plant and contains compounds that research suggests may affect hormone levels, blood pressure regulation, blood clotting, and how your liver processes certain medications. The exact active compounds and their concentrations in this particular product aren't specified in the available data.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that hemp extract is effective for constipation, atopic dermatitis (eczema), or familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic cholesterol condition). For each of these uses, the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to make a rating.

If you're considering this product for any specific health goal, talk with your doctor about whether the evidence supports its use for your situation.

Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods in normal amounts are generally well tolerated, but concentrated extracts like this one are less studied. The data advises caution with supplements and extracts due to limited safety information.

In food amounts, hemp seed is likely okay; serious side effects are rare but include occasional cases of allergic reactions ranging from hives and facial swelling to anaphylaxis and breathing problems. There's also a rare case report of liver inflammation in a young child given very high doses of hemp extract for seizures.

In normal supplement doses, hemp products appear well tolerated. We don't have pregnancy and lactation safety data on file for this ingredient, so there isn't enough information to know either way.

If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to be, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Hemp.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 939 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on hormone therapy (estrogens), blood pressure medications, blood thinners, or drugs your liver breaks down—especially those for heart rhythm or certain infections. While animal research suggests hemp extract may interfere with these, human evidence is limited, so it's worth confirming your exact medications are compatible.

Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Hemp Extract by Charlotte's Web Stanley Brothers: Common Questions

Does Hemp Extract by Charlotte's Web Stanley Brothers interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Hemp Extract has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Hemp Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm on birth control or hormone therapy?
Hemp extract may theoretically interfere with estrogen-based therapies due to its estrogenic effects, though this finding comes from animal research and isn't fully understood. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them — they'll know your specific situation best.
What are the side effects?
In normal amounts, hemp seed products are generally well tolerated with few side effects. Rare serious effects include allergic reactions (hives, facial swelling, shortness of breath, even anaphylaxis) and very rarely liver inflammation at very high doses. If you have a history of seed allergies, be extra cautious.
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for hemp extract, so there isn't enough information to know either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in these situations.
Does this product actually work for anything?
The evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to say whether hemp extract is effective for constipation, eczema, or high cholesterol. If you're considering it for a specific health reason, discuss that with your doctor to see if the evidence supports its use.
What's in the capsule besides the hemp extract?
The capsule contains organic extra virgin olive oil as a carrier and a vegetable capsule shell. There are no other active ingredients.
Can this affect how my blood thinners work?
Animal research shows hemp seed can inhibit platelet aggregation in test tubes, but human studies of 2 grams daily for 12 weeks didn't show this effect. Still, it's a documented theoretical interaction — check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this to your blood thinner regimen.
