HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Petadolex by Linpharma
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Petadolex is a single-ingredient supplement: an extract of Petasites hybridus, the plant commonly known as butterbur. The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients—riboflavin, glycerol, gelatin, sorbitol, and medium-chain triglycerides—which serve as fillers and binders.
Crucially, Petadolex is a PA-free standardized product. That matters because raw butterbur can damage your liver; this version has had those harmful pyrrolizidine alkaloids removed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Butterbur extract in Petadolex carries a "Possibly Effective" rating for two uses: migraine headache prevention and allergic rhinitis (hay fever) symptoms. That means there's some evidence it may help, but the research isn't conclusive yet.
If you're considering it for either of those reasons, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether the evidence fits your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Butterbur is generally well tolerated when taken orally. The most common side effects are mild—belching, diarrhea, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, itchy eyes, itching, rash, and stomach upset.
Some people also report abdominal pain, nausea, or regurgitation. Serious liver injury is rare but documented, even in products labeled PA-free.
Butterbur is not safe in pregnancy (rated Likely Unsafe) or while breastfeeding (also Likely Unsafe), so avoid it during both. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing, don't use this product without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Petadolex, double-check with your pharmacist if you're on any CYP3A4 inducers—medications that speed up your liver's processing of drugs. We have documented interactions with this drug category at Moderate severity.
Use the medication search tool on this page to verify your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Petadolex may be worth considering if you're dealing with migraines or hay fever and want to explore herbal options—the evidence suggests it might help. If you take any medications, especially ones that induce liver enzymes, run them through our checker first.
Pregnant women and those nursing should skip this product entirely. Check with your pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

Petadolex by Linpharma Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Petadolex contains butterbur extract, which has a documented interaction with one major drug category.
If you're taking CYP3A4 inducers—medications that speed up how your liver breaks down certain drugs—there's a theoretical concern that butterbur's active compounds (pyrrolizidine alkaloids, or PAs) could be converted into toxic metabolites at higher rates. This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
The concern is mainly theoretical at this point, but it's worth checking your exact medications before you start.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 85 individual medications.
Beyond that category, no other medication interactions are documented in our data for butterbur. That said, the absence of documented interactions isn't a guarantee none exist—it just means our data doesn't show them.
Use the medication checker on this page with your current prescriptions to be sure.
