What’s inside
Low disclosure
Probiotic MD1550 50+ Billion CFUs contains 18 active ingredients, including the amino acid L-glutamine, the prebiotic fiber inulin, apple pectin, and 11 live probiotic bacteria strains (Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species). The probiotic strains are the main active component, designed to support gut health.
The inactive ingredients are cellulose, vegetable stearate, and silica—standard capsule materials and binders.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most ingredients in this formula is not well established in the data we hold. L-glutamine is rated effective for sickle cell disease and possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness.
Inulin is possibly effective for obesity, constipation, and diabetes. Several of the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains show possible effectiveness for specific conditions—B. bifidum for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory infections, L. acidophilus for IBS, Helicobacter pylori, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis—but most strains have insufficient evidence for the claims made about them.
Apple pectin is possibly effective for high cholesterol. Overall, many of these ingredients lack robust evidence for general digestive or immune support.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults but should be used only under medical supervision if you have kidney or liver disease. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting.
Rare cases of dizziness, headache, mania, and hypomania have been reported. Inulin is generally well tolerated at food doses but commonly causes gas and bloating, especially at higher doses; rare cases of anaphylaxis have been reported in sensitive people.
The Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though rare cases of serious blood infections (bacteremia and sepsis) have occurred in critically ill infants and severely immunocompromised patients. Bloating and flatulence may occur with probiotic use.
Apple pectin is generally well tolerated; common side effects are diarrhea, gas, and mild cramps, and rare allergic reactions including anaphylaxis can occur in sensitive individuals. Pregnancy and lactation safety data for L-glutamine, inulin, and most probiotic strains are limited; L-glutamine and inulin are rated likely safe, and B. bifidum and B. longum are rated possibly safe in pregnancy, but L-glutamine and most strains lack clear lactation data.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you use anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs), antibiotic drugs, diabetes medications, lovastatin, tetracycline antibiotics, or digoxin. Antibiotics and probiotics especially need careful timing so the antibiotic doesn't kill off the live organisms.
If you take any prescription medications, run them through the medication checker on this page before you start.

Probiotic MD1550 50+ Billion CFUs by LEAN Nutraceuticals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Probiotic MD1550 50+ Billion CFUs by LEAN Nutraceuticals has documented interactions through its L-glutamine, inulin, apple pectin, and several Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species.
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction between L-glutamine and anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs), where glutamine may theoretically work against how these drugs control seizures—though this hasn't yet been reported in humans.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Antibiotic drugs are a key concern across multiple probiotic strains in this formula. When you take antibiotics at the same time as B. breve, B. bifidum, B. longum, L. delbrueckii (L. bulgaricus), or L. acidophilus, the antibiotics may kill off the live organisms in the probiotic, making the supplement less effective.
Spacing out these doses helps preserve the probiotic's benefit. Additionally, apple pectin may reduce how well your body absorbs lovastatin (a cholesterol drug), tetracycline antibiotics, or digoxin (a heart medication)—each a Moderate interaction.
Inulin carries a Minor interaction with diabetes medications, where it might theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
We were unable to check several ingredients—L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, B. infantis, B. lactis, L. paracasei, L. casei, L. salivarius, L. brevis, and L. lactis—because interaction data is not held for them. Altogether, these interactions span 324 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Probiotic MD1550 50+ Billion CFUs with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Probiotic Bacteria Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Inulin
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that inulin improves glycemic control in patients with diabetes; however, it is unclear if it has hypoglycemic effects.
L-Glutamine
Anticonvulsants
Theoretically, glutamine might antagonize the effects of anticonvulsant medications.
Glutamine is metabolized to the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate. Glutamate might have antagonistic effects with anticonvulsant drugs. However, this interaction has not yet been reported in humans.
Apple Pectin
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of digoxin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking digoxin with a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of digoxin by about 62%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, or the combination.
Lovastatin (Mevacor)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of lovastatin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Case reports suggest that concomitant use of pectin and lovastatin might reduce the cholesterol-lowering effect of lovastatin, possibly due to reduced intestinal absorption of lovastatin.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, potentially decreasing their effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking tetracycline with bismuth subsalicylate in a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of tetracycline by about 34%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, bismuth subsalicylate, or the combination.
