What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Rest Easy against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Rest Easy is a powder formula with six active ingredients designed to support relaxation and sleep. Hemp cannabinoids provide the phytocannabinoid content; valerian root extract, passion flower extract, chamomile flower extract, and hops flower extract are all herbal extracts traditionally used for calming; and theanine (delivered as Suntheanine, a branded form) is an amino acid found naturally in tea.
The inactive ingredients—soluble non-GMO corn fiber, maltodextrin, natural flavors, and silicon dioxide—are fillers and flavor enhancers that help form and stabilize the powder.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is mixed and limited. Valerian root shows possibly effective evidence for insomnia, and passion flower shows possibly effective evidence for both insomnia and pre-procedural anxiety.
Theanine shows possibly effective evidence for cognitive function—supporting mental clarity rather than sedation. For the other intended uses of this product—hemp cannabinoids for digestive or skin health, chamomile for anxiety, hops for sleep or anxiety—the data we hold rates them as having insufficient reliable evidence.
None of these herbal extracts or cannabinoids is proven to work for the full range of relaxation and sleep issues someone might hope to address.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Valerian, passion flower, chamomile, and hops are generally well tolerated in the short term, though all can cause drowsiness. Valerian's most common side effects are dizziness, drowsiness, and mental slowness; if you take it long-term and then stop abruptly, withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, and insomnia may occur—taper slowly after extended use.
Passion flower and chamomile may cause confusion, dizziness, or sedation, and chamomile can trigger allergic reactions in people sensitive to ragweed or related plants. Hops may cause drowsiness and occupational exposure to hops dust is linked to respiratory problems, though this is unlikely at supplement doses.
Hemp products in food amounts are generally well tolerated, but concentrated extracts and supplements are less studied; rare serious effects including anaphylaxis, long QT syndrome, and liver enzyme elevation have been reported. Theanine is generally well tolerated but may cause headaches or drowsiness.
During pregnancy, safety data advise against valerian, passion flower, chamomile, hops, and theanine—none have enough data to know they're safe, and some show possible or definite risks. Similarly, breastfeeding safety is not established for these ingredients.
If you're pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Rest Easy.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Rest Easy, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any blood pressure medications (theanine and hemp may lower blood pressure further), sedating drugs including benzodiazepines, opioids, or over-the-counter sleep aids (four of the six ingredients can intensify drowsiness), estrogen-based contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy (hemp and chamomile may reduce their effectiveness), blood thinners including warfarin (chamomile and hemp may increase bleeding risk), or drugs metabolized by your liver's CYP2D6, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 enzymes (multiple ingredients can alter their levels). No interactions are documented for the inactive ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Rest Easy may appeal to someone looking for herbal support for sleep and relaxation, since valerian and passion flower have some evidence for insomnia and theanine for mental focus. However, the product carries significant interaction risk with blood pressure and blood sugar medications, sedating drugs, blood thinners, estrogen-based contraceptives, and many others metabolized by your liver.
If you take any prescription medications, check each one against the tool on this page before starting. It's not safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and long-term safety of most ingredients is not well studied.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure Rest Easy is right for you and won't interfere with your current medications or health conditions.

Rest Easy by prima Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Prima's Rest Easy contains six active ingredients, and through its hemp cannabinoids, valerian root extract, passion flower extract, chamomile flower extract, hops flower extract, and theanine (Suntheanine) content, this product interacts with a broad range of medications.
The most serious documented interaction is a Moderate severity effect: hemp cannabinoids and chamomile may interfere with estrogen-based hormone therapy and oral contraceptives, potentially reducing their effectiveness.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Valerian root, passion flower, chamomile, and hops all share Moderate severity interactions with central nervous system (CNS) depressants—sedating drugs like benzodiazepines, opioids, and sleep aids—because they can cause additive drowsiness and sedation. Valerian and chamomile also carry Moderate interactions with drugs metabolized by glucuronidation and certain liver enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP3A4), potentially raising drug levels.
Chamomile specifically has a documented Moderate interaction with warfarin (a blood thinner), as it may increase bleeding risk. Hemp and chamomile both interact with drugs broken down by CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 enzymes, as do valerian, passion flower, and hops—all Minor severity—meaning these products might speed up or slow down how your body clears certain medications.
Theanine carries a Moderate interaction with blood pressure medications because it may lower blood pressure on its own, potentially intensifying the effect. Additionally, minor interactions exist between theanine and serotonergic drugs (though no cases of serotonin syndrome have been reported), and between theanine and other CNS depressants.
Hemp cannabinoids also have Minor interactions with blood thinners and blood pressure drugs. Passion flower carries a Minor interaction with drugs that depend on specific carrier proteins (OATP transporters) to reach your bloodstream.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,214 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before starting Rest Easy.

For each ingredient in Rest Easy with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dietary Fiber
Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
Theoretically, black psyllium might reduce the effects of carbamazepine and increase the risk for convulsions.
Theoretically, black psyllium might reduce carbamazepine absorption. A preliminary study using blond psyllium reported decreased carbamazepine bioavailability due to binding of the drug to psyllium, as well as reduction of available fluid in the gut for dissolution of the drug. This interaction may also occur with black psyllium.
Lithium
Theoretically, taking black psyllium at the same time as lithium might reduce lithium absorption.
The fiber in black psyllium might reduce lithium absorption and plasma levels. Some case reports describe a reduction in plasma lithium levels with concomitant administration of blond psyllium. This was reversed when psyllium was stopped. This interaction may also occur with black psyllium.
Metformin (Glucophage)
Theoretically, black psyllium might increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of metformin.
Animal research shows that concurrent consumption of blond psyllium with metformin slows and increases the absorption of metformin. This interaction may also occur with black psyllium. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after metformin.
Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
Theoretically, taking black psyllium at the same time as olanzapine might reduce olanzapine absorption.
The fiber in black psyllium might decrease the absorption of olanzapine. A single case report describes a reduction in the effectiveness of olanzapine when it was concomitantly administered with an unspecified type of psyllium 3 grams orally twice daily. This effect was reversed when psyllium was stopped.
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, taking black psyllium at the same time as digoxin might reduce digoxin absorption and decrease digoxin levels.
Psyllium might bind digoxin in the gut. However, some clinical evidence suggests that psyllium does not impact digoxin absorption.
Ethinyl Estradiol
Theoretically, taking black psyllium at the same time as ethinyl estradiol might alter levels of estradiol.
Concurrent use of blond psyllium with ethinyl estradiol results in a slight increase in the extent of ethinyl estradiol absorption and a slower rate of absorption. This is unlikely to be clinically significant.
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, psyllium might increase, decrease, or have no effect on the absorption of oral drugs.
Psyllium seems to have variable effects on drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take psyllium 30-60 minutes after oral medications. Animal research shows that blond psyllium delays and increases the absorption of metformin and ethinyl estradiol. Case reports and animal research suggest that blond psyllium might reduce absorption of lithium, digoxin, olanzapine, and carbamazepine. Finally, some pharmacokinetic studies show that psyllium does not affect the absorption of levothyroxine or warfarin. Although many of these studies evaluated blond psyllium, the fiber content in black psyllium may have similar effects.
Chamomile flower extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, German chamomile might have additive effects when used with CNS depressants.
German chamomile has mild sedative effects. Theoretically, concomitant use with drugs with sedative properties can cause additive effects and side effects.
Contraceptive Drugs
Theoretically, large amounts of German chamomile might reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
In vitro, German chamomile has demonstrated antiestrogenic activity. Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of German chamomile might interfere with contraceptive drugs through competition for estrogen receptors.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2C9 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP2C9. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 in patients taking German chamomile.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP2D6 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.
Estrogens
Theoretically, large amounts of German chamomile might reduce the effectiveness of estrogens.
In vitro, German chamomile has demonstrated antiestrogenic activity. Theoretically, large amounts of German chamomile might interfere with hormone replacement therapy through competition for estrogen receptors.
Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)
Theoretically, large amounts of German chamomile might interfere with the activity of tamoxifen.
In vitro, German chamomile has demonstrated antiestrogenic activity.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
German chamomile might increase the effects of warfarin and increase the risk of bleeding.
In one case, a 70-year-old female taking warfarin developed retroperitoneal hematoma and bilateral recti muscle bleeding along with an INR of 7.9 following ingestion of German chamomile tea 4-5 cups daily and use of a topical chamomile-based lotion applied 4-5 times daily.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP1A2 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro and animal research shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking German chamomile.
Hemp Cannabinoids
Estrogens
Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Valerian root extract
Alcohol (Ethanol)
Valerian can have additive sedative effects when used concomitantly with alcohol.
Valerian has sedative effects. Theoretically, valerian might have an additive sedative effect when combined with alcohol. Excessive sedation has been reported in an alcohol-abusing individual who took valerian and Gingko biloba. However, the potential interaction between valerian and alcohol has been disputed in other research. Limited evidence suggests that a combination of valerian 160 mg and lemon balm 80 mg (Euvegal) does not cause further deterioration in reaction ability and reaction rate when taken with alcohol as compared to the effects of alcohol alone.
Alprazolam (Xanax)
Valerian can have additive sedative effects when used with alprazolam. Also, valerian in high doses might modestly increase alprazolam levels, though this is not likely to be clinically significant.
Valerian has sedative effects. Theoretically, valerian might cause additive sedation when combined with alprazolam. Also, a small pharmacokinetic study shows that taking valerian extract 1000 mg daily (providing 11 mg valerenic acid) might increase alprazolam levels by about 19%. This might be due to valerian's mild inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Despite being statistically significant, this increase is not likely to be clinically significant.
Cns Depressants
Valerian can have additive sedative effects when used concomitantly with CNS depressant drugs.
Theoretically, concomitant use of valerian and drugs with sedative and anesthetic properties may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Valerian might weakly inhibit glucuronidation and increase concentrations of drugs metabolized by UGT1A1 and UGT2B7.
In vitro research shows that methanolic valerian extract and valerenic acid might competitively inhibit UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1 (UGT1A1) and UGT2B7.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Valerian does not seem to have a clinically relevant effect on levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Although some in vitro evidence suggests that valerian affects CYP2D6, clinical pharmacokinetic (PK) studies show that valerian is unlikely to affect the CYP2D6 enzyme. In one PK study, taking valerian 1000 mg (providing about 11 mg valerenic acid) nightly for 14 days did not affect the metabolism of dextromethorphan, a CYP2D6 substrate. In another PK study, taking valerian 125 mg three times daily for 28 days did not affect metabolism of debrisoquine, an accepted CYP2D6 probe-substrate.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Valerian does not seem to have a clinically relevant effect on levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Although some in vitro evidence suggests that valerian extract might inhibit or induce CYP3A4, clinical pharmacokinetic (PK) studies show that valerian does not have a clinically significant effect on the CYP3A4 enzyme. In one PK study, taking valerian 125 mg three times daily for 28 days did not affect metabolism of midazolam, an accepted CYP3A4 probe-substrate. In another PK study, taking valerian 1000 mg (providing about 11 mg valerenic acid) nightly for 14 days modestly increases levels of alprazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate, suggesting mild inhibition of CYP3A4. However, this mild inhibition is unlikely to be clinically relevant.
Hops flower extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of hops with sedative drugs might cause additive sedation.
Some animal research shows that hops has sedative effects.
Estrogens
Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of hops might interfere with hormone replacement therapy due to competition for estrogen receptors.
In vitro research suggests that certain hops constituents can competitively bind to estrogen receptors. However, most hops extracts contain very small amounts of these constituents.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Hops extract does not seem to affect the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that flavonoid constituents of hops inhibit CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, does not affect levels of caffeine, a CYP1A2 probe substrate.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, hops extract might alter metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates; however, this effect may not be clinically significant.
Animal research suggests that specific constituents of hops, called lupulones, can induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients with normal metabolism shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, decreases the concentration of alprazolam, a CYP3A4 probe substrate, by 7.6%. This reduction is unlikely to be clinically relevant.
Passion Flower extract
Cns Depressants
Concomitant use of passion flower with sedative drugs might cause additive effects and side effects.
Research in animals and humans shows that passion flower has sedative effects which can be additive when used with sedative medications like lorazepam.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.
Organic Anion-Transporting Polypeptide Substrates (Oatp)
Theoretically, passion flower might reduce the bioavailability of OATP2B1 and OATP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the passion flower constituents apigenin and vitexin inhibit OATP2B1 and OATP1A2. This inhibition may be dose-dependent. One specific high-flavonoid passion flower extract (Valverde) seems to inhibit OATP2B1 and OATP1A2, while another extract with a lower flavonoid concentration (Arkocaps) shows less potent inhibition. OATPs are responsible for the uptake of drugs and other compounds into the body; however, the specific activities of OATP2B1 and OATP1A2 are not well characterized.
Suntheanine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.
