What’s inside
Full disclosure
Sure Stevia Extract is a single-ingredient powder: stevia leaf extract, a zero-calorie sweetener derived from the stevia plant. That's it — no fillers or other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for stevia's effectiveness at its main marketed uses isn't established in the data we hold. For diabetes, hypertension, and weight management — all three carry a rating of Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate.
This doesn't mean it doesn't work, just that the clinical studies available aren't robust enough yet to make a solid claim.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Purified stevia sweeteners in typical food amounts are generally recognized as safe. However, whole-leaf stevia or supplement-dose products like this powder are less well studied, so caution is advised.
In trials, stevia appears to be well tolerated overall — most minor side effects like bloating, dizziness, headache, muscle pain, nausea, and numbness tend to resolve after the first week. Rare allergic reactions have been reported.
Because high-dose supplements lack long-term safety data, err on the side of caution if you're considering regular use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take lithium, check with your pharmacist before using this product — stevia may raise lithium levels. Also double-check if you're on blood pressure medications or diabetes drugs, as stevia has documented Minor-severity interactions with both.
No interactions are documented for other medication types.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sure Stevia Extract is a single-ingredient zero-calorie sweetener, but the evidence that it actually lowers blood sugar, blood pressure, or weight isn't solid yet. The big watch-out is lithium — if you take it for bipolar disorder, check with your pharmacist first.
Otherwise, ask about any blood pressure or diabetes medications you're on before starting.

Sure Stevia Extract by KAL Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sure Stevia Extract by KAL contains stevia leaf extract, which has documented interactions with three medication types.
The most serious concern is lithium — a mood-stabilizing medication used for bipolar disorder. Stevia may slow how your body clears lithium, potentially raising levels to unsafe amounts.
This is a Moderate-severity interaction, so if you take lithium, you'll want to discuss this product with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Stevia also has Minor interactions with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and diabetes drugs. With blood pressure meds, the risk is theoretical — stevia might lower blood pressure further, though research is mixed on whether it actually does.
With diabetes medications, stevia could theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), though a single human study suggested modest glucose benefit. These Minor-severity effects are less urgent than the lithium concern, but still worth checking.
Overall, these interactions span 256 individual medications. Before you add this product, use the medication checker on this page with any prescriptions you take — especially if you're on lithium, blood pressure control, or diabetes management.

For each ingredient in Sure Stevia Extract with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Stevia leaf extract
Lithium
Theoretically, stevia might decrease clearance and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stevia extracts might have diuretic activity. Theoretically, increased reabsorption of lithium along with sodium might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stevia might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes suggests that taking a single dose of stevia extract 1000 mg reduces postprandial blood glucose levels when taken with a meal. However, other clinical research in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suggests that taking stevioside 250 mg three times daily does not significantly affect blood glucose levels or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after three months of treatment.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
