VitalBiome Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Plexus
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking VitalBiome against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of VitalBiome by Plexus
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
VitalBiome contains eight active ingredients—all live probiotics (beneficial bacteria and yeast). The blend includes Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BL-04, Saccharomyces boulardii, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bi-07, Lactobacillus helveticus Rosell-52, Bifidobacterium longum Rosell-175, Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, and Bacillus coagulans (LactoSpore).
These organisms are meant to support your gut microbiome. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: brown rice flour, hypromellose, pectin, and medium chain triglyceride.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these ingredients is mixed. Saccharomyces boulardii and Lactobacillus acidophilus are both possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, and a few other gut-related conditions.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. For most of the other potential uses listed in our data—allergic rhinitis, cognitive function, depression, anxiety, asthma, and athletic performance—the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate these ingredients.
Talk with your healthcare provider about what the product might realistically do for your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults. However, safety data are limited overall, and the live organisms carry a rare but serious risk: in critically ill patients, immunocompromised people, and those with indwelling catheters or recent surgery, bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream) and sepsis have been reported.
Avoid this product if you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, or hospitalized unless your doctor approves it. Mild gastrointestinal side effects like abdominal discomfort, flatulence, and nausea are rare but possible.
For Bifidobacterium longum specifically, pregnancy and lactation are rated possibly safe, but the other ingredients don't have enough data on file—speak with your doctor before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take VitalBiome, double-check your antibiotic drugs with your pharmacist—that's a Moderate interaction across five of the ingredients in this product. Also verify any antifungal medications you're taking, because Saccharomyces boulardii has a Minor interaction with them.
Spacing out the timing may help, but ask your pharmacist for the best approach for your situation.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
VitalBiome is a multi-strain probiotic best suited for generally healthy adults who want to support their gut health. Don't use it if you're critically ill, immunocompromised, or hospitalized without medical approval.
Check with your pharmacist about antibiotic and antifungal interactions before you start, and talk to your doctor if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any underlying immune condition.

VitalBiome by Plexus Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
VitalBiome by Plexus contains eight ingredients, six of which we could check for interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 222 individual medications. The most serious concern is with antibiotic drugs (a Moderate severity interaction).
Five of the live probiotic organisms in this product—Lactobacillus helveticus, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus coagulans, and Saccharomyces boulardii—can theoretically have their effectiveness decreased if you take antibiotics at the same time, because antibiotics may kill a significant number of the live organisms. Your doctor or pharmacist may suggest spacing out when you take them.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Saccharomyces boulardii also has a Minor interaction with antifungal drugs, which work the same way—they might kill the yeast organism and reduce the product's benefit.
We couldn't check three of the ingredients—Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BL-04, and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bi-07—because we don't hold interaction data for them. That doesn't mean they're problem-free; it just means we haven't assessed them.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
