Here's the simple version: phenoxybenzamine (Dibenzyline) already lowers your blood pressure by blocking alpha receptors, which relaxes blood vessels. American Hellebore pushes in the same direction. Its toxic alkaloids drop blood pressure, slow the heart, and cause sedation all on their own. Stack the two together and those effects can pile up.

That means a real risk of dizziness, fainting, a dangerously slow heartbeat, and blood pressure crashing too low, especially when you stand up. This is rated a major, likely interaction with solid evidence behind it. Honestly, American Hellebore isn't a safe self-care product to begin with, since even small amounts can be poisonous. What Is Phenoxybenzamine Used For?

Brand name: Dibenzyline

Phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride capsules are used to treat pheochromocytoma — a rare tumor of the adrenal gland that releases large bursts of stress hormones, causing dangerous spikes in blood pressure and heavy sweating. The capsules help keep those episodes under control.

If the heart rate becomes too fast during treatment, a doctor may also prescribe a beta-blocker alongside phenoxybenzamine.
