Here's something worth knowing if you take Capozide (captopril plus hydrochlorothiazide) to keep your blood pressure in check. Some lower-quality clinical research suggests that drinking apple juice (and cherry juice) regularly may nudge blood pressure upward, especially in older folks. In plain terms, that could work against what your medication is trying to do, so your readings might not stay as controlled as you'd like.

The good news: a whole apple now and then as a snack is very unlikely to cause trouble. The concern is really about drinking apple juice routinely or using concentrated apple products. If you enjoy apple juice daily, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your home blood pressure numbers. Don't change your dose on your own.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
