Ayahuasca Overview
Ayahuasca is a psychoactive drink made from the Ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and other plants, such as Psychotria viridis. Ayahuasca contains beta-carboline alkaloids and the hallucinogen dimethyltryptamine (DMT). It is used for ceremonial and medicinal purposes and is known for its powerful hallucinogenic effects. Although ayahuasca has been used traditionally in some cultures, it is not legal in many areas of the world and has been reported to cause serious life-threatening adverse reactions. Its use is not recommended due to safety concerns.
