Ayahuasca + Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone brand names: Cortef, Hydrocortone, Carmol HC cream, Hydrocortisone Iodoquinol Cream, Vytone Cream, and others.
Ayahuasca has a moderate interaction with Hydrocortisone. Theoretically, ayahuasca might increase plasma concentrations of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ayahuasca interacts with.
Ayahuasca contains beta-carboline alkaloids. In vitro research suggests that beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with these two together. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear hydrocortisone out of your system. The beta-carboline alkaloids in ayahuasca (harmine, harmaline) have been shown in lab dish studies to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in a real person, hydrocortisone could hang around longer and build up, nudging its effects and side effects upward, things like fluid retention, higher blood sugar, mood or sleep changes, and stomach irritation with longer use.
I want to be honest about the strength here: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, and it has never been confirmed in humans. Ayahuasca also carries its own serious risks. Before mixing anything like this, please check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
