Why this applies to Cerivastatin Sodium

Cerivastatin Sodium falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP) — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might alter the levels and clinical effects of OATP substrates.
Some pharmacokinetic research shows that baicalin, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, can decrease plasma levels of rosuvastatin. The mechanism is thought to involve stimulation of the activity of the organic anion-transporting polypeptide 1B1 (OATP1B1), which transports rosuvastatin into the liver. This decreases plasma levels of the drug, but increases levels at the site of action in the liver. The degree to which rosuvastatin levels are affected depends on the OATP1B1 haplotype of the individual. Baikal skullcap might also affect other OATP1B1 substrates.

Here's the gist for cerivastatin (Baycol): this statin gets pulled into your liver by a transporter called OATP1B1, and that's exactly where it does its cholesterol-lowering work. Lab and limited human research suggests baicalin, a compound in Baikal skullcap, may speed up that transporter. In theory, that could move more of the drug into the liver and lower the amount left circulating in your blood.

Honestly, this is rated minor and rests on weak evidence borrowed mostly from rosuvastatin, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The bigger point is moot for most people anyway, since cerivastatin was pulled from the market years ago over muscle safety concerns. If you somehow still have it, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with anything.
