Proguanil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 enzymes.
In vitro evidence suggest that wogonin, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, modestly inhibits the activity of CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's something worth knowing about proguanil: it's actually a prodrug. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to convert it into its active form, cycloguanil, which is the part that helps fight off the malaria parasite. So this one works a little backwards from what you might expect.

Baikal skullcap contains a compound called wogonin that, in lab dishes only, appears to mildly slow down CYP2C19. If that happened in the body, you'd convert less proguanil into its active form, which could make it work less well for malaria prevention. The reassuring part: this is theoretical and based only on test-tube data, never shown in real people. Still, since reliable malaria protection matters, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these.
