Vigabatrin falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.

Here's the gist with Vigabatrin (Sabril) and Baikal skullcap. In lab and animal studies, the herb seems to gently nudge GABA-A receptors in the brain, which can add a mild calming or sedating effect. Vigabatrin also works on the GABA system to quiet down seizure activity, so on paper the two could stack and leave you feeling a bit more drowsy, foggy, or fatigued than usual.

The good news is this is rated minor and unlikely, and it's based only on early lab work, not real patient cases. So far, human studies haven't shown meaningful sedation from the herb. Still, since Vigabatrin already controls hard-to-treat seizures, don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding the supplement.

About Vigabatrin

What Is Vigabatrin Used For?

Brand name: Sabril

Vigabatrin is used to treat two types of seizure conditions. For refractory complex partial seizures (seizures that have not responded well to other treatments), vigabatrin oral solution and tablets are used as an add-on therapy in patients 2 years of age and older — it is not a first-line treatment. Sabril, Vigadrone, and vigabatrin-branded products carry this indication.

For infantile spasms — a specific type of seizure disorder in very young children — vigabatrin oral solution is used as a standalone (monotherapy) treatment in infants 1 month to 2 years of age. Vigafyde oral solution is indicated specifically for infantile spasms monotherapy in this same age group. In all cases, treatment is only appropriate when the potential benefits outweigh the risk of permanent vision loss.
